About Me
From 2002 to 2005, I taught English as a second language at a world-renowned institute in New York City. Since then, I have run my own business as an independent contractor, editing scholarly literature in the social sciences for professors from around the world.
Since 2008, I have also been the legal assistant and office manager for an appellate law firm in Eastern Washington. In 2009, I was among a small group of consultants to Division 3 of the Court of Appeals in their effort to modernize the court's filing system, and in 2010 our firm went completely paperless.
Among my many responsibilities is the preparation of pleadings and briefs for filing in the state's superior courts, courts of appeals, and Supreme Court. As many legal professionals know, this can be challenging and time-consuming, and the luxury of an in-house specialist is one that few small firms can afford. I provide this service on an as-needed basis so that attorneys can make the best possible use of their time and resources.
Included in the Service
In addition to resolving any errors or ambiguities in the writing, changes to your brief will be made to comply with the standards set forth by the Harvard Blue Book. The finished brief will bear a completed caption page, paginated table of contents and table of authorities, proofed body text, and affidavit of service. In short, pending any final concerns that I may alert you to, your brief will be complete and ready to file. Conversion of the file to PDF format, as mandated by the court, is also included.
Rates and Turnaround
My charges for briefs, and for petitions for review in the Supreme Court, are $50 per hour, with most briefs taking two or three hours to complete. Turnaround time is typically three business days, but with sufficient forewarning it can be as short as one calendar day.
Case management services for OPD contractors are also available, and include schedule tracking, ordering of record, routine correspondence with client and court officials, and filing of pleadings. Please contact me for rates and other inquiries.
Correspondence and Payment
Feel free to contact me by email to learn more about my services and how we can get started. All necessary details regarding payment are provided on my estimates (upon request) and invoices; for greatest simplicity, I accept direct deposits into my state employees' credit union account, but will also happily consider PayPal and other online means.
